What you get is a clever space saving idea, and they are quiet to use - a big advantage over cast iron adjustable kits and even fixed-sets if space is really a problem for you. And it is quicker to select the poundage rather than strip down dumbells in an adjustable kit - much quicker.And downsides? Well, they are not fixed dumbells (as the plates move slightly when in use, but only very slightly) and they are more bulky their solid cousins. And some trainers may be limited by the top poundage selection (for greater weight see the SelectTech 1090 dumbells). These dumbells do go up to 21kg each, though, so most users will find the weight range more than adequate.Overall? Not as cheap as adjustable, spinlock cast; not as perfect to use as more expensive fixed dumbell sets. A very good alternative and one we could happily use frequently (and we do).Best used with the stand, space and cost permitting.
